We are excited to announce that as of today, Pure Tūroa Ltd has completed its acquisition of the Tūroa ski field assets from Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (in receivership). This means that Pure Tūroa Ltd is now the owner and operator of the Tūroa ski area, bringing their 18-month journey working with MBIE and the receivers to a close.
Cameron Robertson and Greg Hickman, the directors of Pure Tūroa Ltd, celebrated the momentous occasion with staff and supporters. “We’ve all been working hard to see this come to fruition, and for a lot of the staff on the mountain, today will seem much like yesterday. We’ve been focused on getting ready for the 2024 season since the ski field closed last season. We’re primed to deliver an awesome season, and now we’re excited to be able to focus solely on that.” says Robertson.
Hickman continued, “The company is strongly positioned both operationally and financially, with the Crown as a shareholder and our expert management and advisory board in place to ensure a safe and sustainable future for Tūroa snow sports. The new beginning helps secure the financial prosperity of our local region.”
Following this milestone, Pure Tūroa Ltd has today announced their Season Pass limited launch offer of $649 for adults and $333 for youth and seniors. Season Pass Holders will also benefit with the inclusion of two ‘day passes’ for use at Whakapapa in 2024. Full Tūroa pricing and details will be available at www.pureturoa.nz this Monday at 10am. Products will then be on sale from 10am Thursday the 18th of April.

Can I use my pass on both Whakapapa and Tūroa?
We are pleased that Tūroa Season Pass Holders will receive two ‘day passes’ at Whakapapa for 2024.
What about Local and Day Passes?

If you’re aged 5 and under, or 75 and over, you ski free!
Are Whakapapa Ski Area and Tūroa Ski Area operating separately?
Yes, Whakapapa and Tūroa are now independent ski fields.
What does this mean for existing ‘Ruapehu Alpine Lifts’ Life Pass Holders?
We have a great exclusive offer for existing RAL Life Pass Holders. While we cannot continue ‘Ruapehu Alpine Lifts’ Life Passes, we are offering a heavily discounted ‘3 Season’ Pass; Adults 17 years+ $999, kids 16 years and under $299 (age as of 1st January 2024). This offer will be available when Season Passes go on sale and will end on May 15 2024. The ‘3 Season’ Pass will have all benefits that a standard season pass receives each year.
How many jobs are created as a result of Tūroa Ski Areas operation?
During the winter months there are over 250 Staff at Tūroa, and hundreds more additional jobs are created in Ohakune, Raetihi and around the entire region.
What changes will we see at Tūroa this year?
Even with the short time frames you will see some changes mostly focused on the base area. Rental, Retail and Snow School will have a new layout all focused on the Plaza area. Alpine Cafe is also getting a Pure Tūroa refresh to improve the customer experience.
What else will be on offer this year?
We’re bringing back some old favourite weekend events from rail jams to ski racing. There will be a larger Ski School offering and a special programme for local schools, making Tūroa more accessible than ever. More details will be announced soon!
