Alpine ski racing sensation Alice Robinson (Queenstown, 23) has claimed the twelfth World Cup podium of her career, finishing in third place at the FIS Giant Slalom World Cup held in Semmering, Austria overnight NZT.
Robinson was pleased with her result, explaining; “I am really happy, my third GS race [of the 2025 season] and my second podium…I would describe today’s performance as solid, the first run – I definitely left a bit of time out there, I had some good sections but I was a little conservative. I felt like in the second run I really charged and went for it.”
Robinson explained how she was feeling a little nervous after recording a DNF (did not finish) at the previous GS World Cup stop in Killington, so she skied a little more conservatively on her first run, then as her confidence built she charged hard into her second run and skied into podium position.
The course in Semmering opened with a flatter pitch right out of the start gate before rolling into a steeper section that required the athletes to ski aggressively if they wanted to record a good time. Robinson built good speed throughout her first run to be sitting in sixth place, just +0.61 off the time set by first run leader Federica Brignone of Italy.
The American course setter set a fast course for the second run, requiring the women to fully commit if they wanted to clock a fast time, resulting in a very tight race. In trademark Robinson style, she put her foot on the gas and gave it everything, attacking the course and recording the third fastest second run time of the day and skiing up from sixth into third place.
Federica Brignone of Italy took the win today, claiming her 14th Giant Slalom World Cup podium with 2022 Olympic Champion, Sara Hector of Sweden, finishing in second place.
Robinson’s 2025 campaign continues on the 4th of January 2025 with the Kransjka Gora Giant Slalom World Cup in Slovenia.
