Unprecedented Warmth Forces Australian Resorts to Shut Down Earlier Than Usual

NEWS 📰

Australia has just experienced its warmest winter in recorded history, with temperatures soaring well above the long-term averages across the continent. The national mean temperature was 1.53 degrees higher than the country’s historical average. According to the Bureau of Meteorology’s Winter 2023 Seasonal Summary, maximum temperatures across Australia exceeded the norm by 1.85 degrees, while minimum temperatures were 1.21 degrees above average.

As a result of these exceptionally warm conditions, numerous ski areas ceased operations on Monday, September 4th, and a significant number of others are poised to close following this weekend. Among those set to close early are most sections of the Perisher resort, Mt. Baw Baw, and Selwyn Snow Resort, among others.
